About Morley College London
Morley College London was founded in 1889 by Emma Cons, an artist, social reformer and suffragette, to provide lifelong educational opportunities for diverse communities in London. We are one of the UK’s oldest and largest specialist providers of adult education. With centres in North Kensington, Chelsea and Waterloo and a shared community and adult education space in Stockwell, the College offers a wide range of short courses, adult and higher education qualifications, and qualifications for 16 to 18-year-olds. The College was inspected by Ofsted in February 2023 and achieved a judgement of ‘Good’ overall, with ‘Outstanding’ for behaviours and attitudes which is testament to the hard work and commitment of students, staff, governors and stakeholders. Also in 2023, Morley was awarded the prestigious Gold ranking in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), signifying outstanding student experiences and outcomes.
About the roles
As part of our succession planning, we are recruiting three Audit Committee Members, a Vice-Chair of the Committee and two Committee Members, one of whom will have safeguarding experience and be willing to act as Lead Governor for safeguarding and prevent (with tailored training and support provided). Audit Committee Members support the Governing Body by providing assurance over the effectiveness of risk management, internal control, audit arrangements and governance processes, helping to ensure that the College meets its statutory and regulatory responsibilities and demonstrates the highest standards of accountability in the use of public funds. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to an organisation with a strong public mission. You will support learners, employers and communities, while helping to shape robust governance, effective risk management and a culture of continuous improvement.
Who we are looking for
You will have a passion for further education and skills development for adults and young people in London. We are particularly interested in candidates who bring strong strategic insight and commercial awareness, with significant experience in audit, risk management, finance, compliance, safeguarding or public sector assurance. While prior experience in the education sector is welcomed, it is not essential. What matters most is a genuine interest in tertiary education, a commitment to good governance and the ability to apply professional expertise to a complex, publicly funded environment. Successful candidates will be analytical, principled and collaborative, with the confidence to question, the judgement to advise and the integrity to act independently in the best interests of the College.
Peridot Partners and Morley College London are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and our client expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references before any final offer can be made.
