The purpose of the role
You will lead business growth through product innovation, customer acquisition and the development of strategic commercial partnerships. Reporting to the Managing Director, supported by the Head of Business Development and her team, as well as close links to Head of Marketing and Engagement. How you do it is just as important as what you do in this role. You will be driven to grow the business through developing and managing strong commercial partnerships and sustainable relationships spearheading a culture of professionalism and service that will be associated with the Bush & Co brand. You are a results driven self‑starter, with a collegiate approach, from the legal or insurance sectors or associated supply chains. Looking for a significant role at the top of a successful B2B2C organisation that gives the opportunity to develop and deliver business growth and lead the brand.
What you will be doing as Commercial Director
- Strategic planning – Develop, implement, and continuously refine the commercial, sales and business development strategies achieving business objectives and quality customer experience.
- Product development – Analyse opportunities in the market, develop and deliver products and services in the critical injury legal sector.
- Business development – Accountable for the Business development function, attracting and retaining B2B relationships in the legal, insurance and care sectors.
- Commercial partnerships – Identifying, establishing and managing commercial partnerships that support, complement or extend the Bush & Co offering.
- Brand leadership – You will lead the Bush & Co presence in the industry, raising the profile and setting the standards of professionalism and quality.
- Leadership – Deputise for the MD when required, lead the Head of Business Development to ensure delivery, professional growth and a strong employee culture and customer focus.
- Collaboration - Working in close partnership with the Finance Director, Head of Marketing & Engagement and the Senior Management Team to shape and deliver the company’s future direction.
- Market & Opportunity Insight – Maintain a deep understanding of market trends, risks, customer behaviour and competitor activity to inform proactive growth planning and risk mitigation.
- Performance management – P&L accountability ensuring operational objectives are met by setting clear, measurable goals, monitoring performance and taking corrective action.
Skills and experience required to be successful in this role
- Proven experience within sales, marketing or business development, ideally within the personal injury or clinical negligence legal or insurance sectors.
- Demonstrable experience in customer acquisition and business growth.
- Experience in product development and delivery.
- Proven experience in managing B2B partnerships and solutions.
- Expert negotiation skills to achieve lasting relationships.
- Strong leadership, people management and organisational skills.
- Excellent commercial acumen, analytical and decision‑making skills.
- Highly developed communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast‑paced environment.
