To support the development, training and ongoing professional support of Associate Expert Witnesses, ensuring the delivery of high-quality medico-legal reports through structured training, mentoring and service development. The role supports the Head of Expert Witness in shaping and delivering the expert witness service, including training programmes, expert development and quality assurance, product innovation and service improvement, ensuring the service continues to meet the evolving needs of clients and the legal sector.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • To support the design, development and delivery of training programmes for Associate Expert Witnesses, contributing to building capability, confidence and consistency in medico-legal reporting.
  • To provide structured support to Associate Expert Witnesses, particularly those new to expert witness work or requiring additional development, to enable them to meet deadlines and adhere to Service Level Agreements efficiently.
  • To support the recruitment and onboarding of Associate Expert Witnesses, including screening, assessment of suitability and development of expert CVs and specialist profiles aligned to instruction requirements.
  • To work closely with the Head of Expert Witness on service development initiatives, including new report types, product innovation and improvements to service delivery.
  • To liaise with solicitors and clients where required to support understanding of instruction needs and contribute to service development and alignment with client expectations.
  • To contribute to the design, review and development of report templates, guidance materials and training resources to support high-quality outputs.
  • To support the delivery and ongoing development of the Bush and Co medico-legal training programme.
  • To support the QA team where necessary in reviewing complex medico-legal reports, offering feedback to enhance the final product and in line with Procedural Rule requirements.
  • Participating in and providing input during weekly drop-in clinics, sharing knowledge and insights relevant to quantum cases.
  • Collaborating with the Reports Team and Quality Assurance Team to ensure seamless support and delivery of high-standard medico-legal services, as identified by the Head of Business Operations.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Relevant professional background in healthcare, medico-legal services, or legal practice, or equivalent specialist experience within the personal injury or clinical negligence (essential).
  • Demonstrate experience in the interpretation and application of medico-legal principles, including report preparation, rehabilitation, care provision or associated costings (essential).
  • Strong understanding of care, therapy and rehabilitation provision and the ability to translate these into clear, structured recommendations within a medico-legal context.
  • Experience in calculating, analysing or advising on costs associated with care, therapy or rehabilitation provision.
  • Ability to understand and apply the requirements of the medico-legal claim cycle, including CPR Part 35.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex information and present it clearly.
  • Experience supporting and training professionals within a medico-legal or clinical environment (desirable).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to focus.
  • Ability to respond to frequently changing time scales.
  • IT skills – Outlook, Word, Excel.
  • Organisational skills.
  • Line management experience advantageous but not essential.
