Club Welfare Officer (CWO)

Role Purpose

The Club Welfare Officer is responsible for championing a "child-centered" approach within the club. You will ensure that safeguarding is a top priority, acting as the first point of contact for any concerns regarding the welfare of young players and vulnerable adults.

Key Responsibilities

• Compliance: Ensure all club coaches, officials, and volunteers have up-to-date FA Enhanced DBS checks and safeguarding training.
• Advocacy: Promote the FA’s Respect Program and the club’s Code of Conduct across all age groups.
• Reporting: Act as the primary link between the club and the County FA Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO).
• Support: Provide a listening ear for players and parents, managing concerns with confidentiality and sensitivity.
• Administration: Maintain accurate records of safeguarding certifications and renewals via the FA Club Portal.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Previous experience in a safeguarding or social work role.
• Ability to handle sensitive info with discretion.
• Knowledge of grassroots football structures.
• Basic IT proficiency (Email, FA portals).
• First Aid certification.
• Must undergo an Enhanced DBS Check.

Commitment

• We estimate that you will need to be available for 1-2 hours per week to complete the duties of the CWO although there may be ad‑hoc duties that could increase this.
• Attendance at monthly committee meetings.
• Availability on match days (weekends) or training evenings as needed.
• Completion of the FA Safeguarding Children Course and the Welfare Officer Workshop.

A Note on the Role: While this is a serious responsibility, you aren't expected to be a "private investigator." Your job is to recognise concerns and follow the established reporting pathways to the FA professionals.
