At Bury Council we are transforming our housing services to respond to the real and growing pressures faced by our communities. Our ambition is to prevent homelessness wherever possible, provide safe and appropriate housing solutions when people need them, and ensure our services are compassionate, responsive and centred on the individual. Good quality housing is fundamental to health, wellbeing and opportunity, and central to our wider ambitions for inclusive growth and resilient communities.

We are now seeking an experienced Head of Homelessness Prevention and Housing Solutions to lead this critical area of work. Reporting to the Director of Housing and leading a large, multidisciplinary service, you will provide strategic leadership across homelessness prevention and assessment, housing solutions, temporary accommodation, rough sleeping initiatives, work with asylum seekers and elements of private sector leasing and commissioning. You will be responsible for the council’s homelessness strategy, ensuring it aligns with emerging national policy and the government’s renewed focus on prevention.

You will play a central role in responding to significant challenges, including reducing reliance on temporary accommodation and managing substantial financial pressures, whilst improving outcomes for residents, ensuring services are empathetic, person‑centred and informed by lived experience. Close partnership working will be key to your success, including with adult social care, public health, community and neighbourhoods teams, as well as the voluntary and health sectors.

Working externally, you will represent Bury Council at a sub‑regional and national level, building strong and effective partnerships to influence and deliver joined up responses to homelessness and housing need. You will ensure the council plays an active role in collaborative initiatives, shaping policy and practice whilst securing positive outcomes for residents through strong partnership working.

We are seeking a credible and values driven leader, who is ready to step into a senior strategic role. You will bring experience of leading complex housing needs or homelessness services, navigating change in a challenging environment and balancing compassion with robust decision making. Above all, you will be passionate about improving outcomes for people, ensuring services see the person behind the process.

This is a unique opportunity to join Bury Council at a pivotal moment, shaping a modern, prevention focused homelessness service that makes a real difference to people’s lives and supports the borough’s ambitions for the future.
