We are looking for a proactive and motivated Waste Operations Supervisor to join Bury Council’s Waste Management Service. This is a key frontline leadership role where you will support the delivery of a high-quality, efficient and customer-focused waste and recycling service across the borough. You will be responsible for supervising daily operations, supporting service improvements, and ensuring the service runs safely and effectively in a busy operational environment.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Supervising day-to-day waste and recycling operations
  • Deploying staff, vehicles and equipment to meet service demands
  • Planning and organising resources to ensure efficient service delivery
  • Managing and supporting staff, including attendance, performance and wellbeing
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation and Council procedures
  • Responding to service requests, enquiries and complaints
  • Monitoring performance and identifying service improvements
  • Dealing with operational issues on-site and supporting teams in real time

  • Has experience supervising or leading operational teams
  • Has strong organisational skills and can manage competing priorities
  • Has a good understanding of health and safety in a practical environment

  • Can deal effectively with operational challenges and customer issues
  • Is flexible and willing to work outside normal hours, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays where required

  • Has a full driving licence
