Required for: September 2026 (or Easter start if possible). The ability to teach a second subject is essential. The Derby High School is the highest performing school in Bury, Greater Manchester and has sustained this position for a number of years. We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified, enthusiastic and highly motivated teacher to join our PE Department.

The Derby High School is an over-subscribed 11-16 Co-Educational School situated in the heart of Bury, Greater Manchester. Year on year our students make exceptional progress. We are an inclusive school serving a diverse student population who are a joy to be around. Our Physical Education Faculty is a highly experienced, ambitious and deeply committed team of passionate sports specialists who place young people, performance and personal development at the heart of everything we do. The faculty is driven by energy, collaboration and a shared belief in the power of sport to transform lives. We are proud of our strong team culture, with four PE teachers (two male and two female teachers) working closely together.

Colleagues from across the school are invited to support the team to deliver an extensive extra-curricular programme that truly extends learning beyond the classroom. PE is a core subject across both Key Stages, with BTEC Sport a popular and well-established pathway at Key Stage 4. Our curriculum is designed to excite and engage as we strive to enable every learner to EXCEL.

Through a carefully sequenced and ambitious programme, students develop the physical competence, tactical understanding and leadership skills needed to become confident, independent performers. We inspire lifelong participation by ensuring students recognise the value of physical activity not just for success in school, but for their health, wellbeing and future lives.

The faculty benefits from extensive playing fields, outdoor courts and a fully equipped sports hall. Our commitment to listening to student voice is exemplified by the recent addition of trampolines funded through an ambitious 21-mile, 12-hour community hike involving staff, students and families. We maximise every opportunity to learn beyond the school gates, forging strong partnerships with local sports clubs and facilities and fully embracing our role within the wider community.

Significant involvement in extra-curricular sport is an expectation. Extra-curricular sport is a defining strength of the department and sits at the heart of the school's bespoke enrichment programme, The Derby Diploma. We are proud of our inclusive approach, encouraging students of all abilities to participate, compete and represent the school. Our teams are increasingly successful within the authority and PE staff play a central role in the delivery of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, including expeditions and international residential experiences.
