About the role

Community Library Assistant – Bury Libraries (Part Time, 28 hours per week) Bury Library Service is seeking an enthusiastic and customer‑focused Community Library Assistant to join our team. This part‑time role (28 hours per week) is based at Prestwich Library. Hours will be worked Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 9.30 am – 4.30 pm, Thursday 12 pm – 7 pm, and alternate Sunday mornings 9.00 am – 1 pm. The successful applicant may be asked to work at any of Bury’s Libraries as required. If you bring energy, a genuine love of books, confidence with IT, and enjoy supporting people of all ages and backgrounds, we’d love to hear from you.

Responsibilities

  • Working under the direction of the Library Supervisor, you will help deliver a wide range of library and public information services.
  • Assisting customers with digital enquiries
  • Cash handling
  • Shelving and maintaining stock
  • Supporting general day‑to‑day library operations

Qualifications

We’re looking for someone with proven experience working with the public and handling customer enquiries. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and provide support to customers and external partners.
