We are looking for a committed and motivated Waste Collection Team Leader / LGV Driver to join our Waste Management service. This is a hands‑on leadership role, combining the responsibility of driving waste collection vehicles with leading a frontline operational crew to deliver a high-quality, customer-focused service to residents and businesses. You will play a key role in ensuring that collections are completed safely, efficiently and in line with service standards, while maintaining a professional and positive image of the Council at all times.
You will be part of a dedicated Waste Management team, working from our depot and across the borough.

As a Team Leader, you will supervise and support a crew of Waste Collection Operatives, ensuring they are motivated, informed, and working safely and effectively.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Driving LGV waste collection vehicles across the borough
- Leading and supervising a crew to complete daily collection rounds
- Ensuring all work is completed safely and in line with procedures
- Supporting and developing team members, including new starters
- Delivering excellent customer service when interacting with the public
- Reporting issues using in‑cab technology and ensuring service standards are met
- Carrying out vehicle checks, maintenance tasks and ensuring compliance with transport regulations
What We’re Looking For
- LGV Class 2 (category C) licence
- Driver CPC qualification
- Experience working in a waste, transport, or operational environment
- Strong team leadership or supervisory skills
- Ability to work independently and solve problems on the job
- Good communication skills and the ability to deal confidently with the public
- Commitment to health & safety and safe working practices
- Physically fit and willing to support operational duties (including loading when required)
Working Hours
Normal hours: 37 hours per week, Tuesday to Friday, 06:45 - 16:30. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends depending on service requirements.
