Bury Leisure is looking to recruit 6 candidates to work as Swimming Instructors on a permanent basis. Four positions are on a rota pattern including evenings and weekends, with two annualised hours to cover as required. Rota and working locations will be confirmed for all roles.
As a Swimming Teacher for Bury Council Leisure, you will deliver high‑quality, safe and inspiring swimming lessons within a national framework. You will help swimmers of all ages and abilities progress, build confidence, and develop a lifelong love of the water. It is a role that combines expert technical knowledge with outstanding communication, genuine care for your pupils, and a commitment to safety that never waivers. You will work with a diverse range of swimmers – from young children taking their very first lesson to adults overcoming a fear of water – and will connect with, encourage, and inspire them all. Through this role you will give people a skill they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
What we’re looking for:
- Relevant and current Swimming Teacher’s Certificate, ASA Level 1 or 2, STA Award or Certificate
- Valid RLSS or STA Lifeguard qualification, Rescue Test for Teachers or equivalent, or a commitment to obtain this before commencing
- Evidence of continued CPD demonstrating a commitment to staying current and developing your practice
- Demonstrated knowledge of a National Teaching Framework
- Demonstrated knowledge of lesson planning and pupil development
- Strong knowledge of pool safety procedures and their practical application
- Excellent customer‑care skills and a natural ability to connect with and inspire swimmers and their families
- Knowledge of stroke techniques and advanced principles of teaching
- Safeguarding: working with children, young people and vulnerable adults. All successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and must be fully committed to safeguarding and always promoting welfare
