About the Role

The successful applicant must be willing to complete mandatory training and undergo an enhanced DBS check if offered the role.
The Cook is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious, well-balanced meals for up to 34 residents, ensuring individual dietary requirements, allergies, cultural preferences, and medical needs are met.
The role includes maintaining high standards of food hygiene and safety in line with current legislation, managing kitchen stock and ordering supplies, and ensuring the kitchen is clean, organised, and compliant with health and safety regulations.
The Cook works closely with the care team to promote residents' health, wellbeing, and enjoyment of mealtimes while providing a welcoming and person-centred dining experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook nutritious meals for up to 34 residents
- Follow planned menus and meet individual dietary requirements
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness, and kitchen safety
- Store, prepare, and serve food in line with food safety regulations
- Complete food safety checks and maintain accurate records
- Order food supplies, manage stock, and reduce waste
- Keep kitchen equipment clean and report any faults
- Work with the Registered Manager and care staff to support residents' nutritional needs
- Provide a positive dining experience that respects residents' preferences and choices
- Support kitchen assistants, where required
- Follow health and safety, fire safety, and COSHH procedures
- Attend mandatory training and always promote person-centred care.
About You
We’re looking for someone who
- Has previous experience in a cooking or catering role (essential)
- Holds or willing to obtain a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (essential)
- Has knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and health and safety regulations (essential)
- Can prepare nutritious meals including special diets (essential)
- Has experience working in a residential care or healthcare setting (desirable)
- Has experience with menu planning and stock control (desirable)
- Has knowledge of modified diets and nutritional needs of older people (desirable)
- Has experience supervising or supporting Kitchen Assistants.
- Has good organisational and time management skills
- Works well in a team and communicates effectively
