Burwell Surgery is looking for an experienced healthcare assistant to join our well regarded and supportive team to provide excellent care to patients. You must be able to work as part of a team, have the ability to organise and prioritise your own workload on a day-to-day basis.
Main duties of the job:
- Provide support to the nursing team and contribute to an effective nursing service for the Practice, GPs and patients.
- Provide care to patients appropriate to their skill level by following practice approved protocols.

Job responsibilities:
- Maintain stock levels and stock rotation as agreed with the practice nurses.
- Take and record blood pressures.
- Perform ECGs as required.
- Perform venepuncture for patients.
- Carry out NHS health checks.
- Perform anticoagulation blood tests and dosing with INRstar (training will be provided).
- Process urine specimens.
- Perform other clinical tasks as trained and agreed to meet the needs of the practice.
- Assist doctor with minor ops and coil fittings.
- Respond to patients enquiries and requests while adhering to Practice limitations.
- Maintain equipment, arrange servicing and repair.
Working relationships:
All Burwell Surgery staff, community teams, suppliers and patients.
General responsibilities:
- Adhere to Burwell Surgery agreed policies and procedures.
- Complete required training and development activities.

- Prioritise the safety and well-being of patients, especially vulnerable individuals. Report any concerns regarding potential abuse or neglect immediately.

- Provide a quality service to internal and external agencies.

- You may have to work alone, and therefore you are required to adhere to the relevant lone working policy.
- All members of staff have a responsibility to report all clinical and non-clinical accidents or incidents promptly and when requested to, co-operate with any investigation undertaken.
Person Specification:
- Experience of Primary Care desired.
- Experience of dealing with the public/patients.
- Involvement in using protocols and clinical guidelines.
- Able to work on own initiative.
- Able to follow set procedures and protocols.
- Use of clinical system software e.g. SystmOne and Microsoft Office.
Qualifications:
- NVQ level 2 or 3 Health and Social Care desired.
- GCSE grade C or equivalent in maths and English.
- Proficient computer and keyboard skills.
- Certificates of competence in areas of experience.
- Commitment to professional development.
- DBS certified.
