The Master of Pembroke College Oxford, The Rt Hon Sir Ernest Ryder, is seeking an outstanding candidate to support with delivering a major externally funded research project:

“Law and Democracy – Monograph on Standards in Public Life.”

Founded in 1624, Pembroke is an inclusive and dynamic College based on a central site in Oxford that joins award‑winning new developments with historic quadrangles. The College fosters a close‑knit and stimulating environment for scholarship, research, and public engagement.

The Master’s Research Assistant is a pivotal role, integral to the successful delivery of a scholarly monograph examining ethical and institutional standards in public life, democratic accountability, the rule of law, and trust in institutions.

Working closely with the Master, the post‑holder will provide high‑level academic and administrative support, including literature and case‑law research, coordination of academic collaborations, data and reference management, and editorial assistance. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to a significant piece of research with national and international reach.

The post is ideal for someone motivated, intellectually curious, and highly organised, with excellent written communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities. The successful candidate will be able to work independently, demonstrate sound judgement, and synthesise complex materials with precision.

Benefits include membership of the University staff pension scheme and free lunches when the College kitchens are open. The position is a two‑year fixed‑term appointment, funded by external grant income.
