We are seeking a committed and approachable Domestic Assistant (Maternity Cover, 12 months) to join our Estates team. This temporary role offers an exciting opportunity to combine practical service delivery with student-facing support, helping to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness while also contributing to student wellbeing across our campuses. The role requires a hands‑on, caring approach. You will ensure teaching spaces, accommodation, and communal areas are cleaned to professional standards, while also being a friendly presence for students, offering support, listening to concerns, and signposting to relevant services where needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Delivering regular cleaning across classrooms, accommodation, and communal areas to BICSc (British Institute of Cleaning Science) standards.
- Supporting student wellbeing by being a visible, approachable presence and signposting concerns to the right service.
- Participating in daily team handovers to ensure consistent service delivery.
- Reporting hazards, risks, or welfare issues promptly.
- Carrying out deep cleans and ad-hoc cleaning tasks, following safe working practices and COSHH regulations.
- Contributing to a supportive team culture that prioritises collaboration, accountability, and care.
We know that sometimes people may hesitate to apply if they don’t tick every box. However, we are committed to investing in our staff and encourage applications from those who meet most of the requirements and are keen to develop further.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in a cleaning or facilities role is desirable, but not essential – full training will be provided.
- Good communication and listening skills, with the ability to engage effectively and sensitively with students and staff.
- Awareness of health and safety practices (COSHH, PPE) or willingness to train.
- A proactive, team-oriented attitude with the ability to work independently when required.
- A caring, approachable manner with a genuine interest in student welfare.
