Burton and South Derbyshire College are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic ILM Level 5 Leadership and Management Lecturer to join our Business and Professional Curriculum Team. This is an exciting opportunity to deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across ILM Level 5 Leadership and Management qualifications, including ILM 8607 and the newer ILM 8725 Level 5 Operational Leadership and Management Skills qualification.

Aimed at practising middle managers, project managers and department heads, these qualifications develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to take on greater leadership responsibilities. For learners undertaking ILM 8725, assessment is based on a portfolio of evidence, with topics including people management, organisational culture, project management, operational finance, decision-making, innovation and change.

The successful candidate will deliver an engaging evening class for 3 hours per week, supporting adult learners and employer-sponsored participants to develop practical leadership and management skills that can be applied directly in the workplace. You will be able to motivate and inspire learners, support them to successfully complete written assignments and/or portfolio evidence, and help them make strong links between leadership theory, workplace practice and measurable business improvement.

The ideal candidate will bring current or recent experience in leadership, management, business, organisational development, HR, coaching, mentoring or professional education. You will have excellent communication skills, a strong understanding of adult learning, and a commitment to delivering an outstanding learner experience. The successful candidate will share our ethos and commitment to excellence, innovation and collaboration, and be passionate about helping learners stretch and challenge themselves to progress in their careers.

Key responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment for ILM Level 5 Leadership and Management provision.
  • Deliver one evening session per week.
  • Support learners to understand assessment requirements and produce high-quality written assignments and/or portfolio evidence.
  • Provide clear, constructive and timely feedback to learners.
  • Track learner progress and support timely achievement.
  • Use innovative and engaging approaches to teaching adult and professional learners.
  • Contextualise learning to real workplace leadership and management challenges.
  • Maintain accurate records in line with College and awarding organisation requirements.
  • Contribute to quality assurance processes, standardisation and course review activity.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across Business, Professional and Employer Responsive provision.

Applicants should be qualified to, or willing to work towards, Level 2 English and Maths. Evidence of qualifications is required. Applicants should hold a qualification at Level 5 or above in leadership and management, business, HR, education or a related discipline.
