Who are we looking for?

Burton & South Derbyshire College is excited to announce a newly created opportunity for an Assistant Director of Construction and Engineering to join its Curriculum Leadership Team. This strategic post has been established in response to significant growth in the sector and the College’s commitment to supporting both local and national skills agendas.

The role comes at a pivotal time for the construction and engineering industries, following the Chancellor’s announcement of £600 million of investment to train up to 60,000 additional skilled construction workers. This initiative aims to create well-paid jobs across the country, support the building of 1.5 million new homes, and transform communities by the end of this Parliament.

In alignment with this national agenda and the College’s ambitious roll-out of green technologies programmes, the Assistant Director will play a vital role in driving forward innovative, sustainable, and industry-responsive curriculum development.

BSDC is a medium-sized general further education college operating across two campuses. It offers a wide range of technical, vocational, and professional education programmes from entry to higher education, strengthened by strong employer partnerships. Rated Outstanding by Ofsted in 2024, the College maintains a strong financial position and aspires to be a dynamic, globally connected institution.

Reporting to the Director of Curriculum, the Assistant Director of Construction and Engineering will have leadership and line management responsibility across curriculum departments, with a key focus on driving recruitment, quality, innovation, and learner achievement. The role will be central to preparing learners for high-demand, future-focused roles in the construction and engineering sectors, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and green skills.

The successful candidate will be a visionary and motivational leader with a proven track record in delivering high-quality education and training. Experience in curriculum development aligned to industry needs is essential.

Applicants should be qualified to, or willing to work towards, Level 2 English and Maths. Evidence of qualifications will be required.
