About the role:
As the Head of Communications, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Club’s media relations and communications strategy and will lead on the Club’s marketing output to promote and grow Burton Albion Football Club. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to champion the Club’s aims and protect its reputation.
- Develop and implement Burton Albion’s PR and communications strategies according to the Club’s goals and objectives, to raise awareness and improve the reputation of the Club in local, national, and international markets.
- Overall responsibility for the Club’s corporate communications plan.
- Manage an ongoing communications calendar for player appearances and commercial obligations.
- Manage crisis issues as they arise and protect the Club’s reputation through proactive planning.
- Manage the press list and organise press conferences, appearances, and releases.
- Manage matchday media operations at Pirelli Stadium, ensuring compliance with rules and regulations.
- Provide senior-level consultancy to players/management with regards to all media work.
- Oversee media and broadcast relations at the Club, seeking opportunities to tell Burton Albion’s story on a national scale.
- Develop and manage strong relationships with key personnel at the EFL, and broadcast partners, rightsholders and non-rightsholders.
- Lead and manage the Communications and Marketing team for the Men’s team, Women’s team, and the academy, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure high performance and professional growth.
- Strategic lead across Marketing & Content, building Brand, Marketing, and Digital strategies to deliver fan and revenue growth and ensure departmental objectives are met.
- Oversee the creation of engaging content for digital and social media channels as well as matchday content, to enhance fan interaction and grow online communities.
Skills and Experience Required:
- Significant media and communications experience ideally from within sport.
- Experience of delivering long-term and proactive communications plans.
- Demonstrable experience of delivering successful Marketing, Digital, and Content strategies that drive commercial and fan growth.
- Extensive media contacts within the regional and national press – sports preferable.
- A strong working knowledge of digital and social media.
- An outgoing and confident personality, with good interpersonal and social skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to synopsise information for briefings.
- Resilient, flexible and a positive attitude.
- Excellent writing and copywriting skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
