We are recruiting for a Senior People Movement Consultant to work on some of the world's most complex and technically challenging crowd flow projects. The Analytics & Crowd Dynamics team challenges itself with unique, people‑centric projects around the world. We are at the forefront of innovation, using flow simulations to understand how people move and behave, thereby optimizing spaces such as airports, museums, theatres, workplaces, stadia, campuses and urban spaces. The work is highly varied, delivering complex modelling and day‑to‑day design and management advice to architects and clients.
The Analytics & Crowd Dynamics team at Buro Happold engages with complex challenges, providing innovative solutions that influence how buildings and cities are planned, designed, and operated. The Senior People Movement Consultant works on cutting‑edge projects, from modeling large crowds to advising on design and management.
Key Duties- Work across diverse global projects, ranging from unique UK attractions to analyzing millions of people in Makkah.
- Provide day‑to‑day design and management advice to clients—including architects, developers, operators, and authorities—based on people‑flow analysis and crowd modelling.
- Oversee modelling and analysis, deliver reports and presentations, and liaise with clients to agree assumptions and scenarios.
- Manage projects, ensuring quality, time‑management and delivery within required timescales while supervising junior resources.
- Support development of junior staff in crowd modelling techniques.
- Apply existing standards and methods across a range of sectors.
- Contribute innovative ideas in team meetings, taking lead on development where appropriate.
- Travel as required for on‑site and client meetings in the UK and overseas.
- Industry experience in crowd, pedestrian modelling and crowd management consultancy.
- A degree in a relevant subject such as transport, mathematics, economics, statistics, operational research, geo‑spatial analysis, physics, organizational psychology or engineering.
- Experience leading crowd‑flow modelling projects and delivering key insights that inform design or management; client‑facing experience is desirable.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills, capable of analysing and interpreting people‑flow and related data sets.
- Proficiency with crowd‑modelling packages (e.g. Viswalk, Legion, Mass Motion, Pathfinder); training for Buro Happold tools will be provided.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills, able to convey technical ideas to both technical teams and non‑experts.
- Desirable GIS skills (ArcGIS, QGIS) for geospatial analysis and visualization.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) is beneficial.
