We have opportunities available for an Environmental Consultant grade to work within our International Projects service line. The location of the role is flexible across our Bath, Manchester, Edinburgh and our new Old Street London office.
Your next role
This is an exciting opportunity for consultant grade to get involved in a range of environmental consultancy and advisory services which includes:
- Delivery input into the concept and detailed masterplanning process;
- Working with our established Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEA) delivery team;
- Being involved in project management and environmental coordination across a range of strategic planning environmental deliverables;
- Supporting in developing our emerging overseas Environmental Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) offering;
- Feeding into our advisory services where we look to provide clients with key environmental decision‑making and undertake technical reviews of a range of environmental studies;
- Being involved in business and team development opportunities, with a view of supporting our work winning of future projects internationally.
This role is UK based within Buro Happold’s International Environmental Consulting Service Line, which is part of Buro Happold’s Environmental Consulting Discipline. The role will allow for the candidate to work on key Buro Happold projects across the globe, with a strong focus on supporting our GCC environmental advisory offering. Some of our key clients and projects include delivering ground‑breaking SEAs for the likes of Qiddiya, PIF, and working on integrating environmental solutions for the EXPO 2030 masterplan in Riyadh.
No two days are the same in the International Environmental Consulting service line at Buro Happold. We work within a multi‑disciplinary practice, and an environmental consultant role will see you working alongside various wider environmental disciplines.
What sort of projects would you work on?
This role is for an environmental consultant who has had previous industry experience in delivering projects and ideally someone who has had experience of working closely with multi‑disciplinary teams and is confident being client‑facing. The role will see you take on project manager responsibilities, including in the delivery of environmental sections of masterplanning reports, ESIA and SEA. As an environmental coordinator, the consultant role will support senior staff within the Environmental International Project Service line and will utilise and enhance your knowledge of regeneration and urban projects overseas. The type of projects which Buro Happold will look to develop your ability to influence early‑stage environmental considerations collaboratively and project‑manage effectively. Working on a variety of international masterplans, infrastructure and environmental restoration projects, your portfolio could soon include:
- Masterplanning of mega‑projects in the Middle East and global emerging markets;
- Strategic environmental roles for new and emerging cities and developments;
- International financed projects, in developing countries, to international standards.
Your skills & experience
- Have an understanding of a wide range of environmental aspects and considerations, working as a generalist with our wider technical specialists;
- Provide a point of contact to project leaders within Buro Happold and represent Buro Happold at meetings with clients, other professionals and suppliers externally on projects with an environmental component;
- Technical report writing including contributing to concept masterplanning reports, detailed masterplanning reports, EIA, ESIA and SEA, including writing general chapters;
- Create presentations using infographics/imagery to show complex data visually;
- Carry out studies, research and analysis;
- Project management including budgets for specific assignments and projects;
- Compile geographic data, analyse mapped information, utilise site data in a range of GIS applications and present outputs in innovative ways, including an understanding of how best to apply emerging AI technologies within our industry to improve our ways of working;
- A track record of working on SEA/ESIA projects internationally in a project management capacity;
- The ability to provide expert advice on environmental issues relating to SEA/ESIA strategy advice;
- Have a keen interest in being involved in work‑winning the responding to technical and commercial proposals;
- Be able to be proactive and reactive to deadlines, especially linked to project and proposal delivery;
- Contribute to leading multi‑disciplinary teams successfully;
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written;
- Experience in a client‑facing role, providing advice directly to clients;
- The ability to take the lead in challenging situations in a confident and proactive manner;
- Excellent knowledge of project and business financial and management systems;
- Membership of an appropriate professional body (e.g., ISEP).
