Are you passionate about creating innovative, elegant and robust structural engineering solutions for complex construction projects? With project leadership experience you might become our new Structural Associate Director. This role enables you to work with the London-based structural engineering team focused on a diverse portfolio of projects in the UK and around the world. You will build our capability and credibility in delivering projects, represent the team externally, mobilise and develop a network of clients and collaborators, and lead an effective work‑winning strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a variety of projects as Job Leader, Project Leader, or Project Director.
  • Present and advance technical solutions at client and internal briefings.
  • Build a strong pipeline of work for London Structures and other Buro Happold offices.
  • Manage the delivery of large complex projects through to completion.
  • Drive innovation, engaging with research and development opportunities.
  • Provide effective leadership, direction, and technical advice to the team.
  • Maintain an external profile through engagement with collaborators and external events.
  • Identify and manage project risks proactively.
  • Champion client satisfaction and provide outstanding client care.
  • Review team members’ performance and support their development.
  • Line‑manage and mentor members of the London Structures team.

Principal Objectives

  • Build a strong pipeline of work in London Structures.
  • Build a strong delivery capability in London Structures and other Buro Happold offices (including Europe and India).
  • Build a project portfolio of high-quality, brand-enhancing projects achieving profitability targets.
  • Establish a network of internal and external clients to win new and repeat business.
  • Strengthen Buro Happold’s market profile through science and technology design excellence.
  • Drive innovation within Buro Happold.
  • Proactively manage client relationships to exceed expectations.
  • Take a leadership role within the London Structures team, providing direction and technical advice.

Level of Autonomy and Decision‑Making

  • Accountable to the Discipline Leader for delivery of objectives and responsibilities.
  • Accountable to a Project Director and/or Project Principal for project contributions.
  • Free to manage project activities within the portfolio, including approving fees and scope of service.
  • Responsible for revenue generation targets as part of performance goals.
