We are recruiting for a contract Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Building Environments team in our London office. The role will offer the opportunity for you to immerse yourself in a varied portfolio of engaging and dynamic projects both in the UK and globally, offering the opportunity to work on unique and high-profile projects.

Our London Building Services (MEP) team is involved in a wide variety of challenging and exciting projects. Current projects include:

  • Marina Residential Tower, Athens – Greece's tallest building will also be an exemplar in sustainable design.
  • Barbican Renewal, London – A once in a generation opportunity to be involved in the low energy refurbishment of an iconic, unapologetically modernist building.
  • Canning Town Masterplan – As part of our multidisciplinary design team supporting the development of an estate regeneration masterplan on a 10ha site with a brief to deliver 1,750 homes.

Buro Happold's London Building Services team continues to deliver cutting edge design solutions which encourage the efficient use of materials, energy and natural resources. Our holistic, multidisciplinary design environment affords our engineers the freedom and creativity to push the boundaries of sustainable building technology across HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing disciplines in close collaboration with practice-wide specialist groups such as sustainability & physics, facades, lighting, and technology.

Key Duties

  • Undertake detailed mechanical engineering building services design and calculations, using Revit and IES software to support your knowledge of exemplar building design and performance, as well as an appreciation of a designs embodied carbon.
  • Embrace technologies to improve performance and sustainability to meet net zero targets by 2030.
  • Ensure projects are carried out to an excellent standard, within agreed deadlines and budget.
  • Represent Buro Happold at meetings with clients, other professionals, and suppliers.
  • Produce and review reports, presentations, models, and drawings to an excellent standard, high level of accuracy and in a timely manner.
  • Prepare technical specifications and schedules, design development reports and innovative design solutions.
  • Plan and manage input to Revit for production of design work.
  • Actively engage with colleagues across disciplines, in group discussions and at events and seminars.
  • Mentor more junior team members, potentially leading to an early line management role.
  • Autonomously represent Buro Happold to clients, architects and collaborators.

Your Skills and Experience

  • Relevant building services experience or credentials that will help us meet our goals for delivering highly sustainable buildings.
  • Experience as a Lead Mechanical Engineer on projects.
  • Broad design knowledge, from working on a wide range of projects and using British, US and European codes of practice.
  • Experience using common analysis software including Revit and IES and willing to quickly learn to use new analysis packages as required.
  • Digital engineering skills (e.g. coding) would be advantageous.
  • Working towards, or Chartered Member of CIBSE or equivalent body.
  • A Bachelor's degree BEng/BSc or Master's degree MEng/MSc in a relevant discipline.
