Help shape the future of building performance and asset strategies as the Discipline Lead for Asset Consulting and Building Surveying at Buro Happold. In this senior leadership role, you will set the vision for a growing team, drive market‑leading consultancy services, and work with clients across some of the most complex and high‑profile estates in the UK and beyond.
This role offers the opportunity to lead Buro Happold’s UK Asset Consulting and Building Surveying team, shaping strategy, growing capability and delivering impact across a diverse portfolio of clients and sectors. You will provide business, strategic and people leadership for a team of specialists, ensuring technical excellence, strong commercial performance and an inclusive, supportive culture.
Key Responsibilities- Lead a thriving UK Asset Consulting & Building Surveying discipline, with clear growth ambitions and the backing of a multidisciplinary, global engineering practice.
- Own, shape and deliver the group strategy for growth, aligned with Buro Happold’s UK+ and global plans, including organisation design and future capability needs.
- Influence the future of buildings and infrastructure, combining technical excellence with innovation, sustainability and impact working across sectors such as culture, aviation, commercial and heritage.
- Provide visionary leadership for the Asset Consulting and Building Surveying discipline, implementing a clear strategy for growth, capability and market presence.
- Chair regular leadership meetings, foster a collaborative and inclusive culture, and champion multidisciplinary working across Specialist Consulting and the wider business.
- Act as Project Director on key commissions, providing high‑level advice on asset condition, lifecycle, intervention strategies and risk across multiple sectors.
- Drive work winning with a personal business development target, strengthen existing client relationships and open new markets for the service.
- A diverse, inclusive and fully utilised Asset Consulting and Building Surveying team, integrated with the wider Buro Happold business.
- A clearly articulated strategy for the group, addressing skills, clients and market opportunities, and delivering on agreed budget and profit expectations.
- A technically excellent, innovative team with clear career paths and development plans, recognised for leading practice in asset condition assessment, management and intervention.
- Strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues across disciplines, creating new commercial opportunities and high‑value outcomes for clients.
- Proven track record as a respected Building Surveying professional, with extensive experience in asset condition assessment, asset management and intervention across multiple sectors.
- Professionally qualified with RICS (MRICS) or CIOB (MCIOB) or alternative relevant professional body.
- Recognised commercial and technical leadership, including leading teams to deliver engineering solutions in a multidisciplinary environment and demonstrable work winning.
- Strong UK client network and consultancy skills, with the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments, negotiate effectively and build long‑term relationships.
- Experience building, retaining and leading high‑performing teams, and a leadership style that combines customer‑centricity, strategic thinking and a focus on performance and wellbeing.
- Relevant professional qualifications and memberships in Building Surveying or related disciplines.
- A leader who is passionate about creating better experiences and better returns for clients, and about the legacy of the built environment.
- Someone who is comfortable challenging the status quo, driving innovation and supporting colleagues to grow and collaborate.
