The Analytics & Crowd Dynamics team at Buro Happold is challenged with the most unique, interesting people‑centric projects around the world. This requires us to be at the forefront of innovation in the field to address the complex challenges of analysis, optimisation and solutions for how people move and behave. We are disrupting how buildings and cities are planned, designed, and operated. We are putting people at the centre of decision making, using people‑flow simulations and other methods to analyse crowd behaviour, visitor movement and management. We are optimising spaces such as airports, museums, theatres, workplaces, stadia, campuses and urban spaces. We take pride in delighting our clients by providing practical solutions that have significant positive impact on user experience, the performance of the venue or space and facilitating crowd management.
The work is highly varied and challenging, and would involve complex modelling work, as well as providing day‑to‑day design and management advice to architects and clients. Key Duties
- Work across several interesting projects around the world from a diverse range of sectors, covering many different scales and sizes from unique attractions in the UK to analysing millions of people in Makkah.
- Providing day‑to‑day design and management advice to clients including architects, developers, operators and authorities based on people‑flow analysis and expert knowledge in crowd modelling and management.
- Deliver top quality crowd‑flow / people movement consultancy working with our international clients and stakeholders.
- Overseeing modelling and analysis, report/presentation delivery, and client liaison.
- Develop client relationships, prepare and submit bid proposals for work in liaison with the team’s work‑winners across the business.
- Undertaking the necessary project management, quality assurance and time management on projects to deliver high‑value, profitable work effectively.
- Support across a range of sectors using existing understanding of the standards and methods that are applied to different scenarios.
- Guide and mentor other team members in such analysis and delivery to the client.
- Contribute fresh innovative ideas in group meetings and team discussions, taking a lead on innovative development of ideas on a project or otherwise.
- Travel as needed to attend on‑site and client meetings.
Your skills & experience
- Significant industry experience of crowd, pedestrian modelling, crowd management consultancy.
- A degree in a relevant subject including but not limited to transport, mathematics, economics, statistics, operational research, geo‑spatial analysis, physics, organisational psychology, and engineering.
- Experience leading crowd‑flow projects.
- Experience working as part of a specialist team integrating with a variety of disciplines and stakeholders.
- On‑site crowd‑management experience desirable.
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills with experience analysing and interpreting people‑flow and other data sets, generating assumptions as necessary in lieu of data availability.
- Experience of crowd modelling packages and their applications such as Legion, Pathfinder, Mass Motion, Viswalk etc.
- Ability to present and communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible manner to clients, including at board level when required.
- Desirable experience using GIS software to analyse and visualise geospatial data (ArcGIS, QGIS).
- Confident using Microsoft Office packages, in particular Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud products (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) beneficial.
