Could you help continue the expansion of Buro Happold’s air quality services in the international market? If you have a strong background in air quality consultancy and can be based out of one of our UK offices a couple of days a week, this could be an excellent opportunity to play a key role in an expanding, globally focused team.
The role will support with growing our air quality offering in the International Market, including the Middle East, Africa and other emerging markets, working alongside our global air quality lead. The role will involve contributing technical expertise to a diverse portfolio of overseas projects, supporting business development, and supporting the strategic direction of our air quality service.
This role will help to facilitate further growth within our air quality team with a particular focus on supporting our international service offer. Buro Happold are looking to deliver continued organic growth, by placing an Associate air quality specialist in one of our UK offices to take on a level of day-to-day leadership of our international service offer.
The role will focus on managing and delivering air quality inputs to large-scale international masterplanning projects, as well as providing specialist technical input to air quality chapters of Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) across the Middle East. We support career progression through work on engaging projects with valued clients across a diverse and evolving international market presence, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Africa.
The successful candidate will support a wide range of ongoing projects across sectors including residential, commercial, industrial and energy. Our team are currently working on some of the largest “GIGA” projects to be coming forward in the Middle East, including EXPO, Qiddiya and Diriyah Gate, alongside large-scale regional frameworks in both the UAE and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).
Beyond our existing workload in the Middle East and Africa, the strategy for the team includes a desire to grow our air quality services into other emerging international markets. As a part of this role, whilst based in the UK, you will have a client-facing role with responsibility in terms of managing project delivery and teams; with opportunities for international on-project travel.
The ambition of the role is to play a key part in growing the air quality service offering, working with the Service Line lead in contributing both to the development of technical capability and products, and to work winning and client relationship management across international markets.
We Are Looking For
- A track record of leading large scale air quality design support for international masterplans, helping guide a concept design to more positive air quality outcomes.
- Experience of leading the air quality input for SEA/ESIA projects internationally, excellent understanding of ESIA process and IFC requirements.
- It would be advantageous to have skills in contributing to effective support of regional planning frameworks; but we are happy to support in this area, if you’ve not yet had experience of regional policy and planning.
- Demonstrated experience of working with EBRD, IFC or other lender standards.
- Significant experience in a client facing role, providing advice direct to clients and collaborators.
- Expert in atmospheric dispersion modelling, particularly for the assessment of air quality impacts using ADMS road, ADMS 6 or AERMOD.
- Strong technical capability in this area with the ability to review and interpret data.
- Contributing to marketing strategy and business development with a particular focus on international emerging markets.
- Developing and reviewing proposals for air quality services in emerging international markets.
- Designing and implementing ambient and indoor air quality monitoring plans including both passive and automatic techniques.
- Thorough knowledge and demonstrable understanding of relevant international legislation, policy, technical guidance and industry standards and best practice relating to air quality.
- Any existing experience in indoor air quality is advantageous, with experience in building certifications including, LEED, WELL and Envision.
- Experience in Odour, Ecological and Dust Risk Assessments.
- Proficiency in coaching and mentoring junior staff to develop their own technical skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Working knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) – Q-GIS or ArcGIS.
- The ability to take the lead in challenging situations in a confident and proactive manner.
- Actively contributing ideas to identifying changes in working practices to maximise internal efficiencies and benefit the air quality service product line.
- Track-record in the consultancy sector ideally with an engineering consultancy, with strong customer focus.
- Demonstrates a track record of delivering successful and profitable major projects and tenders.
- Excellent knowledge of project and business financial and management systems.
- Have a degree in mathematics, physics, chemistry, environmental science, geography or a similar subject preferably with a related master’s degree and full Membership of the Institute of Air Quality Management or the necessary qualifications/experience to become a Member.
