We are recruiting for a Senior Technician Apprentice (Level 4) for our Building Services team in Bath. This is an exciting opportunity for someone at the start of their digital engineering career to develop practical BIM skills within a vibrant, supportive, multidisciplinary practice based in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Bath.

As an apprentice, you will learn how to support BIM delivery across building services projects, working alongside experienced engineers and digital specialists while completing a structured apprenticeship programme.

Your next role – Apprentice BIM Technician: Join us and discover exciting early-career opportunities within our digitally focused Building Environments (Mechanical, Electrical & Public Health) team. You’ll be part of a collaborative group that embraces innovation, using BIM and advanced digital tools to help shape high‑performance, sustainable building systems. You’ll develop your skills in BIM, modelling, and data‑driven design while working alongside experienced engineers and digital specialists in a supportive environment.

Key duties:

  • Supporting the production of accurate, coordinated MEP service models using Revit and other BIM tools.
  • Working collaboratively with the MEP team to help deliver high‑quality BIM outputs in line with project requirements and agreed timescales.
  • Attending internal and, where appropriate, external meetings to observe, learn, and contribute to BIM discussions.
  • Learning and applying core Revit and BIM techniques, with guidance from senior team members.
  • Assisting with quality checks of BIM models and associated drawings, schedules, and data to ensure they meet project standards.
  • Supporting the review and implementation of project BIM documentation, such as BEPs and EIRs, to understand how digital delivery is managed.
  • Engaging with the wider Buro Happold BIM community to learn best practice.
  • Assisting in the development and continual improvement of BIM systems, standards, and procedures.
  • Utilising technology to push the boundaries of our processes, improving the way we work.
  • Developing sketches and early‑stage concepts into coordinated drawing details, gaining an understanding of the engineering principles behind building services design.

About You / Who We’re Looking For: We’re looking for someone who is curious, motivated, and enthusiastic about starting a career in digital engineering and BIM within the built environment. This role is ideal for a school or college leaver, or someone early in their career, who is keen to learn and develop their technical skills through a structured apprenticeship programme. You don’t need to have industry experience; what matters most is your interest in BIM, digital design, and how buildings are designed and delivered.

  • A genuine interest in digital engineering, BIM, and building services (MEP).
  • A strong willingness to learn, develop new skills, and take feedback on board.
  • An organised approach to work, with good attention to detail.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and communicate clearly with others.
  • A positive, proactive attitude and pride in producing high quality work.
  • Good IT skills and confidence using digital tools, or the enthusiasm to develop them.

Grade 4/C in English and Maths AND Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject, for example: Building Services Engineering, Electrical / Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction or Built Environment, Engineering BTEC, T Level, or Advanced Apprenticeship OR A‑Levels, typically in Maths plus a technical subject such as Physics, Engineering, or Design Technology.

It would be beneficial, but not essential, if you have:

  • Studied or are studying a relevant subject such as engineering, construction, design, IT, or a built environment related course.
  • Some awareness of BIM, CAD, or Revit through education, work experience, or personal projects.
  • An interest in sustainability, technology, or innovation in the built environment.
