About The Role
As a Data & Analytics Engineer, you'll sit at the heart of Buro Happold's digital transformation journey, designing and building the data platforms that enable smarter decision‑making across our global engineering practice. Combining modern data engineering with business intelligence development, you'll create scalable data pipelines, develop powerful reporting solutions, and help establish best practices for data governance, quality, and self‑service analytics. You'll work across a diverse range of systems and stakeholders, translating data from engineering, project management, and operational platforms into trusted, actionable intelligence.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines using modern lakehouse and medallion architecture principles.
- Integrate and transform data from project systems, engineering tools, databases, and APIs.
- Ensure robust data quality, governance, lineage, and documentation standards across the platform.
- Collaborate with IT and platform teams to optimise cloud‑based data infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and reporting solutions that support operational and strategic decision‑making.
- Own the full reporting lifecycle, from requirements gathering and data modelling through to deployment and user adoption.
- Implement best practices around semantic models, governance, security, and workspace management.
- Support the transition from traditional reporting towards scalable self‑service analytics.
- Contribute to AI‑enabled initiatives by integrating data outputs into governed reporting environments.
- Help build reusable data assets that support knowledge sharing and organisational learning.
- Support workflow automation programmes by ensuring engineering outputs are captured, structured, and accessible.
- Partner with engineers, project managers, and business leaders to understand data challenges and develop impactful solutions.
- Promote a data‑driven culture through knowledge sharing, training, and mentoring.
- Support the growth of analytics capability across the wider business.
About You
Essentials
- 3–6 years' experience in Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, or a similar role.
- Proven experience designing and developing modern data pipelines and data models.
- Strong Power BI expertise, including data modelling, DAX, dashboard development, and workspace management.
- Excellent SQL skills and experience with Python and/or PySpark.
- Experience working with cloud data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks, or similar technologies.
- Knowledge of data governance, quality management, and documentation best practices.
- Experience using Git and modern development practices, including CI/CD.
- The ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
Desirables
- Experience within engineering consultancy, AEC, or professional services environments.
- Exposure to orchestration tools such as Airflow, Prefect, or Azure Data Factory.
- An interest in AI, machine learning, or emerging data technologies.
