Are you a Geospatial Data Scientist looking to grow your expertise and make a difference on projects across the world? You will join us as a Geospatial Data Scientist – a key member of our Geospatial Science and Digital Twins team, responsible for applying advanced analytical techniques to derive insights from our big data. This is a permanent role, but we are also open to candidates who wish to work on a contract basis (inside IR35).

Key Duties

  • Undertake research and development into geospatial services and application of new technologies.
  • Develop automated solutions, including 3D virtual cities, digital twins, new data products, data science and insights services from a vast array of datasets.
  • Manage and juggle complex master‑planning projects, project‑managing spatial and non‑spatial data governance procedures and processes.
  • Set GIS standards in data quality, accuracy and mapping, and develop and disseminate standard GIS templates that feed into map‑making capabilities.
  • Provide training on a local and global level in QGIS and ArcGIS, while developing new and improved GIS templates, styles and symbology.
  • Manage bids for Requests for Work (RfW), including writing and developing new scopes, estimating fee costs, developing plans and covering resource for the project timeline.
  • Assist in developing web‑mapping solutions using AI and Machine Learning modules, embedding geospatial datasets into gaming engines to demonstrate the capabilities of GIS solutions to clients.

Your skills and experience

  • Experience in geospatial data analytics and insights concepts, able to derive insights and patterns from big data using statistical methods and processes.
  • Proficiency in data‑science languages such as Python, R, MATLAB, SQL and C/C++, and experience in spatial data processing and management, with a strong emphasis on SQL scripting.
  • Experience with spatial data management tools and platforms such as ArcGIS, ArcPy, QGIS, Shapely, GeoPandas, NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, GDAL, GRASS, scikit‑learn, TensorFlow for geospatial analysis.
  • Demonstrable experience setting up and configuring spatial databases such as PostgreSQL/PostGIS, MS SQL Spatial and other big‑data platforms like MongoDB.
  • Understanding of vector databases for AI module implementation and techniques.
  • Experience with geospatial data ETL to a spatial data warehouse, including CAD/BIM to GIS data processing and use of ETL tools to automate data processes.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing technologies (Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Oracle Cloud) for development of data analytics and insights solutions, along with cybersecurity best practices and protocols.
  • Familiarity with semantic 3D modelling, LIDAR, point clouds and other 3D datasets, and ability to train, calibrate and validate computer‑vision algorithms for feature extraction using OpenCV and FME.
  • Ability to communicate geospatial data analytics methodologies and insights to both technical and non‑technical audiences; strong, complex problem‑solving skills and self‑starter.
  • Experience applying Natural Language Processing (NLP) for cluster and pattern recognition in textual information.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from a relevant technical degree in Data Science, GIS or Computer Science.
  • A master’s degree or PhD is an added advantage, with 7 years or more experience.
