Buro Happold is recruiting for an Electrical Engineer to join our Building Environments team in our Manchester office. This role is suited to a candidate from a Buildings background looking for an opportunity to pursue industry leading designs within a vibrant multi-disciplinary practice.
Our Manchester Building Services (MEP) team is involved in a wide variety of challenging and exciting projects. Current projects include:
- Wrexham AFC Kop Stand Redevelopment, Wrexham – redevelopment of the STōK Cae Ras stadium with a new 5,500 stand housing players and media facilities, general admissions and high quality hospitality.
- MMU All Saints Library, Manchester – creation of a new world class library and teaching building on the All Saints campus in central Manchester.
- Sister Manchester Plot C, Manchester – 500,000 ft2 high quality commercial office space alongside community use spaces.
Buro Happold's Manchester Building Services team delivers cutting edge design solutions encouraging efficient use of materials, energy and natural resources. Our holistic, multidisciplinary design environment affords our engineers the freedom and creativity to push the boundaries of sustainable building technology across HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing disciplines in close collaboration with practice-wide specialist groups such as sustainability & physics, facades, lighting, and technology.
Key Duties
The role of an Electrical Engineer can be very varied; duties include but are not limited to:
- Undertake detailed electrical engineering building services design and calculations, using Revit and Amtech software to support knowledge of exemplar building design and performance, as well as an appreciation of a design's embodied carbon.
- Embrace technologies to improve performance and sustainability to meet net zero targets by 2030.
- Ensure projects are carried out to an excellent standard, within agreed deadlines and budget.
- Produce reports, presentations, models, and drawings to a high standard, with a high level of accuracy and in a timely manner.
- Prepare technical schedules, design development reports and innovative design solutions.
- Plan and manage input to Revit for production of design work.
- Actively engage with colleagues across disciplines.
Your Skills & Experience
Relevant building services experience or credentials that will help deliver highly sustainable buildings. Experience as an Electrical Engineer on projects. Broad design knowledge, from working on a wide range of projects and using British, US and European codes of practice. Experience using common analysis software including Revit, Amtech and IES and willingness to quickly learn to use new analysis packages as required. Digital engineering skills (e.g. coding) would be advantageous. Working towards, or a Chartered Member of IET, CIBSE or equivalent body. A Bachelor’s degree BEng/BSc or Master’s degree MEng/MSc in a relevant discipline.
