At Buro Happold, we’re looking for a commercially minded Credit Risk Manager to take ownership of our global credit risk capability and play a pivotal role in protecting the business from financial risk while supporting sustainable growth. This role will be based from our Bath office with a hybrid working arrangement or 1 to 2 days in the office.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead the credit risk function, acting as the go-to expert for all risk‑related matters across the business.
  • Assess the creditworthiness and insolvency risk of clients globally—from SMEs to major international organisations.
  • Provide expert insight into sanctions, solvency and country risk, supporting key bid and commercial decisions.
  • Monitor our client portfolio, identify early warning signs and proactively manage risk exposure.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to stakeholders across the business, including senior leadership and regional teams.
  • Manage credit insurance policies and recommend appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
  • Drive data quality, reporting accuracy and continuous improvement within the credit risk function.
  • Collaborate with Commercial, Legal and project teams to embed a strong risk‑aware culture.
  • Lead and develop a small team, with scope to grow the function over time.
  • Leverage tools, automation and emerging technologies to enhance the effectiveness of risk processes.

About you

  • Experience in credit risk, underwriting or financial analysis.
  • Strong commercial judgement and the ability to translate complex risk into clear, actionable insight.
  • Confidence working with senior stakeholders, including board‑level audiences.
  • Excellent relationship‑building skills across a global organisation.
  • A proactive, self‑driven approach with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Solid Excel and data analysis skills.
  • Desirable: Experience in the construction or engineering sector.
  • Knowledge of sanctions legislation within a B2B environment.
  • Line management experience.
  • Membership of (or willingness to work towards) the Chartered Institute of Credit Management (CICM).
