The Buro Happold Security group provides consultative services to clients in order to develop the built environment. We typically support our clients through security planning and strategy, physical security, security technologies and design, to ensure developments and their surroundings are safe, secure and functional. In addition, we provide advice in solution procurement and implementation during and beyond construction to provide clients with a comprehensive range of services.
Design of security systems and associated technologies goes beyond the conventional technologies of video surveillance, access control and alarm systems. As part of a considered and holistic design process, we identify threats and risks to a project, then evaluate the requirements to eliminate or mitigate through informed and intelligent planning, coordination and design. Security technologies provide a means to monitor, control, analyse and automate activities in a building, allowing clients an enhanced level of situational awareness and the ability to manage and plan appropriately. Well designed and suitable security solutions can act as both a deterrent to certain behaviours, and to detect and provide an audit trail of activities when required.
The increasing demand and expectation to live in safe and secure environments is driving new and emerging technologies, making this industry a highly valued and interesting sector to work within. The team’s project work spans multiple sectors including education, cultural, stadia, commercial, airports, mixed use and government. We work to support clients and design teams across the world. We’re also active in research and development, in areas that improve our approach to design within the built environment. Examples of this include: building information modelling, SMART buildings and creation of bespoke software design tools.
In order to maintain our position as a leading consultancy in this sector, it is vital to keep abreast of the latest emerging technologies and their potential benefits to our clients.
