Buro Happold is recruiting a Librarian on a six month fixed term contract that will be responsible for the policy, planning, organisation, management and promotion of resources and information services available to the wider business.
Based from one of our five UK offices (London, Bath, Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh) this role will represent the Information Technology department across the organisation and externally, promoting the value of the department internally, highlighting new resources available and regulation updates.

What You\’ll Be Doing
- Establish and review library policies and procedures including legal compliance with copyright legislation and licensing constraints, and ensure we are adhering to current copyright legislation, giving copyright advice when needed.
- Manage both physical and electronic resources, updating the Library Management System and check with appropriate staff that subscriptions are fit for purpose and updated when required; taking responsibility for content management of the information services intranet.
- Manage our legal information of British Standards etc., this involves office audits and maintaining a standards archive.
- Plan the information service budget and monitor budget spend, ensuring appropriate value when purchasing books, standards and journals for the library.
- Represent the library service externally with engineering institutions; maintaining awareness of current developments in the industry and passing this on to relevant staff.
- Take responsibility for the provision of the Library’s enquiry service to ensure users information needs are fully met within a specified timeframe, as well as organising library induction programmes for new users.
- Take responsibility for selection and maintenance of serials.
- Oversee paper archiving of projects as well as maintain projects on the archive server, whilst working closely with IT representatives to ensure we always have the required amount of space available.
What we’re looking for
- Experience managing library/ information services, including budget management, physical and electronic resources management, and archiving.
- A-levels, HND, degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Built environment industry experience.
