Overview
Burnside Recruitment is seeking an experienced Chartered Structural Design Engineer to support a long-term programme of modifications and upgrades across major onshore refinery, chemical manufacturing, and pipeline infrastructure. This is a 12-month+ contract, operating outside IR35, and ideally suited to a limited company contractor.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead structural design and assessment activities for brownfield heavy civils projects within complex process plant environments.
- Deliver structural calculations, reports, design packages, and technical documentation to UK regulatory and industry standards.
- Provide technical oversight on modifications, upgrades, and integrity improvements.
- Interface with multidiscipline engineering teams, site personnel, and project stakeholders.
- Support design reviews, hazard studies, and constructability assessments.
Essential Requirements
- Chartered Structural Engineer (CEng) – mandatory.
- 10+ years’ experience in UK-based brownfield heavy civils projects.
- Strong background in sectors such as Refining, Nuclear, Pharmaceutical, Manufacturing, or similar process industries.
- Proven capability in structural design for process plant buildings, pipe racks, foundations, and supporting infrastructure.
- Full right to work in the UK – UK residents only, no visa restrictions.
- Willingness to be based in Aberdeen for the majority of the contract.
Desirable Experience
- Familiarity with onshore refinery or chemical plant modifications.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary EPC or asset-owner environments.
- Strong understanding of UK codes, standards, and safety regulations.
