Security Strategy Lead – FinTech, Engineering, Product Security – £100k – £150k – London (Hybrid)A leading European FinTech scale-up is seeking a Security Strategy Lead to establish their first dedicated security function. This mission-driven organization provides flexible, data-driven financing solutions to the SME market, having already supported tens of thousands of businesses with billions in funding. By combining advanced data science with a customer-first approach, they are redefining how small businesses access the capital they need to grow.The Security Strategy Lead will be the foundational hire for security, moving the discipline from a shared responsibility across IT and Engineering into a dedicated, strategic powerhouse. Reporting to the Engineering Director, you will have company-wide visibility and the autonomy to define how security is embedded into the product lifecycle.The Security Strategy Lead\’s responsibilities will be:Define and Own Security Strategy: Develop a long-term security roadmap that balances robust risk mitigation with a frictionless experience for both customers and developers.Establish the Function: Act as the primary decision-maker for security architecture, deciding how the function evolves and when to utilize internal talent versus third-party expertise or new tooling.Optimize Tooling and Processes: Design and implement security protocols across the tech stack, maintaining a comprehensive view of identity risks, third-party exposure, and supply-chain vulnerabilities.Drive Automated Detection: Oversee the adoption and development of automated security tools where they add genuine value to the development pipeline.Monitoring and Reporting: Create visibility into the effectiveness of security controls, generating data-driven insights to guide future prioritization.Incident Response Leadership: Act as the primary point of contact for security matters, leading the coordination and triage of emerging threats and incidents.Collaborative Influence: Work as a peer to Product and Engineering teams to align on security trade-offs, ensuring security is a business enabler rather than a blocker.The Security Strategy Lead will be expected to have experience with:Risk Analysis and Mitigation: Proven ability to analyze complex security risks across application and infrastructure systems and implement pragmatic protections.Security Tooling Proficiency: Deep understanding of static analysis, network scanning, and penetration testing, with the practical knowledge of how to apply them.Strategic Execution: A track record of turning high-level security plans into actionable improvements within engineering environments.Stakeholder Management: Experience leading change and influencing technical teams, making trade-offs explicit while aligning with the broader business context.Growth Mindset: Ideally, experience building security practices within a fast-scaling company or contributing to certifications like ISO 27001.Threat Landscape Expertise: Exposure to identity-based attacks, supply chain vulnerabilities, or other advanced threat classes.Are you a forward-thinking security leader ready to step into a high-impact role and build a dedicated function from the ground up?
