We're partnered with a fast-growing London-based startup who are looking for a Mid-Level Backend Engineer to help scale a high-traffic platform at pace. This role is ideal for a Node.js developer who wants real ownership, rapid delivery, and the chance to grow quickly in a startup environment.
You’ll work across a wide range of backend projects - building new platform features, developing third-party integrations, and creating APIs that power customer-facing applications. As part of a small, collaborative team, you’ll make meaningful contributions from day one, own significant areas of the product, and see your work shipped quickly.
What You’ll Be Doing- Build and maintain backend services and APIs using Node.js
- Develop new features across internal tools and customer-facing products
- Design and implement integrations with third-party and partner systems
- Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code
- Design database schemas, optimise queries, and ensure data integrity
- Collaborate closely with frontend engineers and other stakeholders
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues with a focus on reliability
- Contribute ideas to improve systems, architecture, and processes
- 3-5 years of professional backend engineering experience
- Strong experience with Node.js and TypeScript
- Proven experience building RESTful APIs and/or GraphQL
- Solid knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred)
- Experience writing unit and integration tests
- Comfortable working with Git and collaborative workflows
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Ownership mindset - able to take projects from idea to production
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving, sometimes ambiguous environment
