Here at Burns Sheehan, we are exclusively partnered with a leading UK fintech that is transforming small business lending - processing billions in decisions annually. They have built a mature AI/ML team over the past 18 months and are now scaling their GenAI capabilities from proof-of-concept to production-ready systems across the business. They are hiring an experienced Lead Platform Engineer to build and own the AI platform. This will involve the management of all the infrastructure, tooling, and cloud layer that enables data scientists and product teams to develop and deploy AI applications at scale.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Defining and executing the technical strategy for the company’s AI platform infrastructure.
- Architecting and building scalable, secure AWS-based systems for hosting and serving AI models and applications.
- Developing tooling, frameworks, and governance systems to standardise AI development across teams.
- Guiding others on best practices across the stack for AI workloads.
- Evaluating and integrating third-party AI tools alongside making build vs. buy decisions.
- Working with Product, Engineering, Security, and Legal to embed responsible AI practices into the platform.
What They’re Looking For:
- Strong background in Platform or Software Engineering with proven AWS cloud platform experience.
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and cloud-native development.
- Python scripting proficiency at platform engineer level but an understanding of software development lifecycle and production system ownership.
- Interest or experience in GenAI infrastructure - RAG, vector databases, LLM platforms, or agent frameworks.
- Strong communication skills and ability to translate technical decisions into business outcomes.
This role is NOT an ML Engineering position - you won’t be training models or building LLMs. It’s focused on the platform layer that makes AI applications possible. If you are a platform-focused engineer with AWS experience who is curious about moving deeper into the AI space and wants to shape infrastructure from the ground up - get in touch to find out more.
