The sustainability advisor will work on environmental and sustainable design of infrastructure projects in co-operation with our engineers and consultants to create world class designs. You will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process including site due diligence, adapting strategies and plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs. The sustainability advisor will also support the management and development of Planning, Environment & Sustainability Services (ENS) Global Practice across the UK & Europe leading to the sustainable growth of ENS in a dynamic and profitable manner based on Burns & McDonnell's core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety, and overall outstanding service.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to environmental & sustainable design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion under the direction of a Senior Project Manager/Director.
  • Modify and review production drawings for a variety of projects including, but not limited to, power plants, process facilities, data centres, industrial facilities, healthcare facilities, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.
  • Applies good knowledge of commonly used environmental/sustainability/engineering/energy/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the environmental engineering services industry.
  • Research and compile project related data as required by the Senior Project Manager/Director.
  • Update drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software.
  • Compiles information for client presentations, technical reports, and contract administration for the design of power, process, pipeline, industrial, healthcare, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.
  • Oversees field surveys, measurements or calculations, and site works for public and private clients.
  • Undertake assessments and calculations supporting the assessment of BREEAM/LEED certification and Whole Life Carbon/Cost (WLC/C) assessment and the utilities sector Carbon Interface Tool (CIT).
  • Early skills in project & people management would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain and Social Value would be an advantage.
  • Experience in participating in sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits and tenders.
  • Contribute to the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.
  • Contribute to project budgeting, cost estimation and reporting of project performance.
  • Effective communication with other engineering disciplines.
  • Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.
  • Ability to manage Burns & McDonnell Corporate Sustainability in UK & Europe under the direction of the UK Sustainability Director.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in engineering, environmental science, sustainability or a related degree from accredited program and 3 years applicable experience Required or Master Degree in engineering, environmental science, sustainability or a related degree from accredited program and 2 years applicable experience Required.
  • Prior experience on construction project sites or executing program management in the industries of aviation, commercial, energy, government, manufacturing, oil & gas, process, transmission & distribution, or water is preferred.
  • Accreditation in BREEAM and/or LEED assessments.
  • Working knowledge of WLC/C assessments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding work environment, ability to work overtime on short notice.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency using Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others (owners, contractors, engineers, designers) in a multi-disciplined project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.
  • Ability to work overseas.
  • Strong experience with document control, scheduling, cost control and project management software.
