Location: Turf Moor (Burnley), Leisure Box (Brierfield) and other locations as necessary

Salary: £25,000 - £27,500 per annum

Contract Type: Fixed-Term until 31st July 2028

About the Role:

The Youth Engagement Officer will deliver engaging and inclusive Youth Engagement programmes across Burnley, Pendle and East Lancashire, using the power of sport to create positive change for underrepresented, disadvantaged and vulnerable young people.

Working closely with the Youth Engagement Manager, the postholder will support the planning, delivery and development of high-quality activities and interventions that respond to local needs, encourage meaningful participation, and help young people develop their confidence, resilience, wellbeing and aspirations, achieving positive outcomes for themselves and their communities.

Key Responsibilities:

Programme Delivery

  • Deliver high-quality, engaging and inclusive youth engagement sessions across a range of programmes and community settings.
  • Lead the delivery of key programmes including Premier League Kicks, Limitless Clarets, Youth Board and Detached Youth Work.
  • Plan and facilitate workshops, interventions and activities that address local, regional and national issues affecting young people.
  • Develop and deliver social action projects that empower young people to make a positive contribution to their communities.

Community Outreach & Engagement

  • Promote and develop youth engagement programmes to maximise participation and meet programme targets.
  • Build positive relationships with young people, schools, local organisations and community groups.
  • Engage and build positive relationships with young people across Burnley, Pendle and East Lancashire.
  • Represent Burnley FC in the Community at meetings, events, competitions and stakeholder forums.
  • Support the delivery of events, initiatives and opportunities that enhance the participant experience.

Target Delivery & Early Intervention

  • Support the identification of local needs and contribute to the development of targeted interventions.
  • Deliver activities within communities experiencing social, economic and environmental challenges.
  • Provide appropriate guidance, support and signposting to young people where required.
  • Contribute to initiatives designed to improve confidence, wellbeing, resilience and aspirations.

Partnership Working

  • Develop and maintain effective partnerships with schools, local authorities, community organisations and key stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation to enhance programme quality and participant outcomes.
  • Support the identification of new opportunities to expand and strengthen youth engagement provision.
  • Contribute to partnership meetings and collaborative projects that support programme aims.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate participant records, attendance data and case notes using organisational systems.
  • Monitor and evaluate programme delivery against agreed targets, outcomes and KPIs.
  • Support the completion of funding reports and impact reporting requirements within agreed deadlines.
  • Collect and record participant feedback, case studies and outcome data to demonstrate programme impact.

Safeguarding, Health & Safety

  • Maintain high standards of health and safety across all activities, venues and events.
  • Complete risk assessments and implement appropriate control measures for all delivery activities.
  • Respond appropriately to safeguarding, welfare and wellbeing concerns in line with organisational procedures.

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

  • Ensure programmes are accessible, welcoming and inclusive for all young people.
  • Actively engage groups who may face barriers to participation, including females, LGBTQ+ young people, SEND participants and ethnically diverse communities.
  • Promote equality, diversity and inclusion through programme design, delivery and participant engagement.

Professional Practice

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of programme delivery and participant outcomes.
  • Keep up to date with developments in youth work, community engagement and best practice.

  • To understand and implement the Charity’s Safeguarding policy, procedures, and best practice guidelines in your role. To use this understanding to ensure safe working practices, appropriate reporting of concerns and contribute positively to a safe environment.
  • To be able to work flexible hours where the role of the job requires. You may be required to work the occasional match day which may fall on a weekend or evening.

About You:

To be successful within this role, you will have:

  • Level 1 or 2 Youth Work qualification (or equivalent).
  • Level 2 Multi-Sports qualification(s) (or equivalent).
  • Experience of coaching, mentoring, or working with children and young people.
  • Experience of working with children and young people with SEND.
  • Experience of supporting children and young people who display challenging behaviour.
  • Experience of delivering activities within sport, education, or community settings.
  • Proven experience of working with children, young people, or adults.
  • Experience of building and maintaining positive relationships with participants, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Experience of monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on programme or project outcomes.
  • Works towards targets, delivers consistent results, and proactively identifies opportunities for improvement.
  • Effectively prioritises workload and meets deadlines and agreed targets.
  • Communicates straightforward information clearly and accurately.
  • Works cooperatively with others and actively contributes to team activities.
  • Adapts to change and considers different perspectives in a positive and practical way.
