Our Foundation Degree in Health & Social Care gives students the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and practical experience within the health, social care and mental health settings, while incorporating simulated learning within our designated hospital simulation, anatomage and counselling rooms.

Throughout the part-time 3 year course you will undertake two practice placement modules that will allow you to apply your skills and knowledge in the area of practice that interests you within the health and social care sector where you will develop an insight into the industry for your future career.

Entry Requirements

  • UCAS: 72 points at A2
  • BTEC Extended Diploma: MMP
  • BTECDiploma: DM Pass
  • Access Course: 72 UCAS points
  • T level: P (C+)
  • IELTS: 6.0 with no component lower than 5.5
  • GCSEs: 5 at grade C/4 including maths and English or equivalent

This course will involve you working with vulnerable groups of individuals, including children. In order to ensure that we offer places on the programme to suitable candidates you will be required to obtain a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service clearance. Once you have applied for the course, you will be invited to attend a formal interview.

Health and Social Care tutors promote the transfer of learning between academic theory and work based learning. Teaching and learning methods are varied including individual study, lectures, group activities, speakers and online learning. Work-based learning is integral to the course aims, enabling the evaluation of skills and knowledge in practice. Assessment methods are varied and include presentations, essays, workbooks, portfolio and reflective accounts.

By successfully completing Year 1 (Level 4) of this programme, you can then progress on to year 2 (Level 5) of the course at Burnley College or you will have the option to apply for the BSc (Hons) Pre-registration Nursing, BSc (Hons) Midwifery, BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy and BSc (Hons) Operating Department Practice with the University of Central Lancashire. Successful completion of the two-year programme at Burnley College will allow you to gain access to the third year of the BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care and the BA (Hons) Applied Community & Social Care Studies.
