This course will explore and develop basic skills and knowledge across various sport and fitness sectors. The course is shaped to enhance academic skills, whilst focusing on three main learning themes: ‘Health and Fitness’, ‘Coaching and Delivery’, and ‘Practical Sport’.
You will study:
- 2 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above, or a relevant Entry Level qualification.
Modules include:
- Being Organised
- Develop a Personal Progression Plan
- Working with Others
- Researching a Topic
- How exercise affects the body
- Training & fitness
- Playing sport
- Coaching skills in sport
- Assisting in a sports activity
- Running a sports event
Assessment is internally assessed coursework that is a mixture of written assignments, presentations, portfolio compilation, and practical assessment followed by personal reflections.
You may choose to progress to a Level 2 Diploma in Gym Instruction, Level 2 Sport Coaching, or a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Leisure Operations.
Equipment Needed: Students will need appropriate sportswear which can be purchased from College on enrolment. Take part in weekly practical sporting activities, join the differing Burnley College Sports Academies, regular industry guest speakers, and potential visits to local external sporting activities such as Padel tennis, golf, kayaking, and Padel Board.
