This course has been developed in consultation with employers in the sport and active leisure industry. You will gain the knowledge and training for progression into Sports Coaching and Development and eventual employment as a Sports Coach for children. You will learn the skills, knowledge and behaviours demanded by employers in the sports and active leisure industry.

You will learn about the ways in which people participate in sport and physical activity, jobs in the leisure industry, personal skills and professional behaviours, the school environment and the National Curriculum, planning and leading children’s sports activity sessions and sports industry legislation and guidance.

Entry Requirements: 3 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, or a relevant Level 1 qualification.

Modules:

  • Unit 1 - Working in the sport and leisure industry
  • Unit 2 - Roles and Responsibilities of a Community Activity Leader
  • Unit 3 - Planning and Promoting Community Activities
  • Unit 4 - Working as a Community Activity Leader

Assessment: Assessment is developed through a mixture of written projects, practical delivery, review of session planning and coaching performance and participant monitoring projects.

You could choose to progress onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development, a Themis Apprenticeship in Sports Coaching or into the activity leadership industry.

Equipment Needed: Students will need appropriate sports wear which can be purchased from College on enrolment. Take part in weekly practical sporting activities, join the differing Burnley College Sports Academies, regular industry guest speakers and potential visits to local external sporting activities such as Padel tennis, golf, kayaking and Padel Board.
