The primary role of the Building Safety Act Enforcement Officer is to support the administration of Building Safety Levy processes. This includes determining levy chargeability and liability, issuing levy determination notices, arranging spot checks, receiving payments, issuing payment certificates, and managing requests for reviews from developers. The role also involves preparing quarterly management information and revenue transfer to MHCLG.
You will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, ensuring clear communication in line with Local Authority procedures. In addition, you will be responsible for assessing unauthorised work reports, including the issuing of Compliance Notices and Stop Notices following advice from a Registered Building Inspector. You will also deal with reports of dangerous structures during office hours, taking action where necessary under Sections 77 and 78 of the Building Act 1984 for which you will receive formal training.
You should be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and be able to deal with a wide range of customers. You must possess a high level of integrity, the ability to communicate effectively, and be able to accurately measure scale drawings electronically. You must be able to work both independently and as part of a team, show a willingness to learn new skills, and demonstrate a strong commitment to improving the built environment for the people of Burnley and Padiham.
