We are seeking an experienced Business Intelligence (BI) Specialist to support a higher‑education institution in elevating the quality, clarity, and professionalism of its reporting dashboards. This short‑term contract is ideal for someone who can quickly understand organisational data needs and deliver high‑impact visual analytics with minimal onboarding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and refine clean, modern, and user‑friendly dashboards for internal stakeholders across academic and professional services teams.
  • Translate complex datasets into clear, actionable insights that support strategic and operational decision‑making.
  • Review existing dashboards and reporting assets, identifying opportunities for improvement in structure, visual design, and data storytelling.
  • Ensure dashboards follow institutional branding, accessibility standards, and best‑practice BI principles.
  • Collaborate with data owners, analysts, and senior stakeholders to gather requirements and validate outputs.
  • Optimise data models, queries, and data flows to ensure dashboards are performant and reliable.
  • Provide light documentation or handover notes to support continuity after the contract ends.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience delivering BI dashboards within higher education or similarly complex, data‑rich environments.
  • Strong proficiency in at least one major BI tool (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, Google Sheets).
  • Demonstrable ability to produce polished, professional‑grade visualisations with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of data modelling, DAX/SQL, and data transformation workflows.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver high‑quality outputs at pace.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non‑technical audiences.

Desirable

  • Experience working with student, research, finance, or operational datasets in HE.
  • Familiarity with HE sector reporting frameworks (HESA, OfS, internal KPIs).
  • Understanding of data governance and accessibility standards.
