What Is Live-In Care?

Live-in care is different from working as a domiciliary care worker or in a care home. As a live-in carer, you stay in your client's home for 2 to 4 weeks. You provide support, companionship, and care. You will have your own private bedroom and all meals provided.

Your Role as a Live-In Carer:

You will provide great care to clients in their homes. This will improve their quality of life with personalized support and companionship. Your daily duties include:

  • Personal care – washing, dressing, toileting, maintaining dignity
  • Medication administration – safely managing prescriptions and accurate MAR charts
  • Meal planning and cooking – preparing nutritious food
  • Companionship – meaningful conversations, activities, accompanying to appointments
  • Light housekeeping – keeping the home clean and safe
  • Shopping and errands – prescriptions, weekly shopping
  • Monitoring and communicating – observing health changes and liaising with families

You may care for someone with dementia, support someone recovering from a stroke, manage Parkinson's disease, or provide palliative care. The little things really do make the biggest differences, remembering how someone likes their tea, finding the right music, or being a reassuring presence.
