ROLE OVERVIEW
The Greenkeeper is responsible for supporting the maintenance, presentation and overall condition of the golf course and practice facilities to ensure the highest standards for members, guests and visitors.
Working as part of the Greenkeeping team, the role involves carrying out a wide range of course maintenance activities to help deliver an exceptional playing experience throughout the year.
This is a hands‑on role that includes tasks such as mowing, bunker maintenance, hole changing, divot repair, turf care, irrigation, course set‑up and general grounds maintenance.
The Greenkeeper will assist with renovation and improvement projects, monitor the condition of playing surfaces, and ensure all work is completed safely and efficiently in line with company policies and procedures.
The successful candidate will be passionate about golf course maintenance, take pride in maintaining high standards, and be willing to learn and develop their technical greenkeeping knowledge.
They will work collaboratively with team members, demonstrate a positive and proactive approach, and contribute to creating an outstanding environment for both customers and team members.

- KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Strategic
- Assist the Course Manager to ensure that all aspects of greenkeeping are aligned with the overall strategy for the club.
- Keep abreast of changes in the golf market in which Abbey Hill operates and use this knowledge to identify opportunities for all areas of greenkeeping.
- Operations
- Continually review and develop standard operating procedures for greenkeeping to enhance member and guest satisfaction whilst maximising revenue and profitability.
- To actively participate in the various tasks required in the maintenance of the property.
Including (but not limited to) mowing, hole‑changing, divot‑filling, bunker raking, aerating, top dressing, fertilising, watering, spraying and pest control etc.
- To organise and participate in project works such as green, tee and bunker renovation, turfing, seeding, path work, irrigation, drainage, and fairway renovations etc.
- Understand fertiliser and pesticide rates, calibrations and maintain records. Maintain up to date spraying qualifications.
- Maintain the effective operation of the irrigation system.
- Assist in the care and maintenance of all assets, inventory, and resources of the greenkeeping division.
- To operate all the golf course equipment and golf buggies, including servicing and repair schedules.
- Monitor turf quality, including checking for pests, diseases, soil moisture and thatch levels. Report all concerns to the Course Manager.
- To present the driving range outfield to the highest possible standard. This includes routine work throughout the year to maintain and improve the grass on the outfield.
- To support the collection of driving range golf balls. This includes both manual and mechanical collections depending on the conditions at the time.
- To ensure the quality of the driving range balls are maintained, removing from circulation any worn balls and working with the Head Professional to order new stock as required
- Comply with all Health and Safety procedures.
- Deputise for the Course Manager as required.
- People
- Ensure personal compliance within Access Learning is 100% at all times.
- Maintain a strong network with fellow BGL Greenkeeping team members to support robust collaboration.
- Financial
- Complete month end procedures for inventory in line with BGL company stock taking procedures.
- Adhere and monitor compliance of purchasing policies and procedures.
- Ensure all BGL procedures and policies are adhered to.
- Customer Experience
- Ensure that the greenkeeping team consistently deliver outstanding service levels to achieve maximum customer satisfaction.
- KEY EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
Experience
- Previous experience working as a Greenkeeper is essential.
- Course maintenance experience is essential.
- Experience maintaining a Driving Range is desirable
