Overview

In this role, you help Burges Salmon manage professional indemnity and regulatory risk, working with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate emerging risks before they materialise. You will advise on investigations, regulatory inquiries, and risk frameworks, while shaping training and onboarding for senior hires and staff. The role blends legal risk expertise with practical risk management to support safe, ethical operations. This opportunity offers meaningful work within a collaborative, high-impact practice.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with managing and investigating potential professional negligence issues
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders, brokers, insurers and panel firms
  • Support investigation and handling of client complaints
  • Investigate regulatory breaches, incidents and near misses; identify root causes and remedial action
  • Respond to regulatory inquiries
  • Support practising certificate renewal processes and regulatory authorisations
  • Contribute to annual professional indemnity insurance renewal and other insurance programmes
  • Collaborate with Resourcing on regulatory and insurance aspects of onboarding senior lateral hires
  • Design and deliver engaging training to legal and Business Services colleagues
  • Monitor legal, regulatory and market developments to identify emerging risks
  • Contribute to development of risk management frameworks, policies and procedures

Key requirements

  • Qualified solicitor, CiLEx-qualified lawyer (or other legally qualified)
  • Experience in law firm risk management, regulatory compliance, or professional indemnity law; or contentious background such as general litigation or insurance disputes
  • Knowledge of the SRA Standards and Regulations; familiarity with Scotland and Northern Ireland advantageous
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to explain complex issues clearly to different audiences
