These are the things we value most at Burendo, we can teach skills, but our behaviours forge the culture we strive for.
- A passion for engineering and AI, and a desire to keep learning
- A focus on writing clear, concise code that's easy to maintain, and being pragmatic when required, avoiding unnecessary "gold plating," including knowing when an AI solution isn't the right answer
- An understanding that quality is everyone's responsibility
- Comfortable working with others in pairing or mobbing scenarios
- A good communicator who shares our values of openness and respect
- A Dev Ops mentality, meaning that you don't want to chuck code over the fence, and you are keen to be involved right through to delivering the code to the customer
We believe every engineer should have a fundamental understanding of development, infrastructure, and testing and therefore you'll need at least some of these skills to help you pick the role up quickly.
Burendo is invested in the growth of our consultants and provide a healthy self-development budget you can use to grow in the areas mentioned below, or any other of your choosing!
The must haves

And it would be great if you have any of these
- Good understanding of and experience with agile methodologies
- Experience shipping production agentic or LLM based systems, including tool and function calling, state and memory management, control flow (branching, loops, retries), and human in the loop checkpoints, using a framework such as Lang Chain/Lang Graph, Amazon Bedrock Agent Core, Crew AI, Llama Index, Strands Agents, Google ADK, or Open AI Agents SDK.
- Familiarity with MCP (Model Context Protocol) or similar standards for connecting AI models to external tools and data sources
- Basic data pipeline or ETL experience feeding data into AI systems
- Awareness of AI specific security, compliance, and governance considerations (data handling, model risk, responsible use policy), particularly relevant given our regulated sector clients
- Experience monitoring AI system performance and cost in production
- Awareness of fine tuning, when and why it's used, even without hands on experience
These are the little bit extra, cherry on top skills that will help you stand out. Still give us a shout if you haven't currently got these skills though!

How to prepare for a job interview at Burendo
✨Brush Up on Your Coding Skills
For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.
✨Know Your Tools and Frameworks
Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Burendo uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.
✨Showcase Your Projects
Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.
✨Prepare for Behavioural Questions
While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
