We are currently seeking a Backend Engineer (Java) to join us on a 6-month contract basis, inside IR35, starting as soon as possible. This role is fully remote, offering flexibility in working location within the UK. While not essential, the ability to travel to the North of England on occasion would be advantageous.

Must-Haves

  • Strong proficiency in Java and object-oriented programming principles
  • Experience with Spring Boot or similar Java frameworks
  • Proven experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs
  • Hands-on experience with microservices architecture
  • Solid understanding of database schema design, SQL, and query optimization
  • Experience with performance tuning and scalability best practices
  • Knowledge of caching strategies (e.g., Redis, in-memory caching)
  • Experience integrating with third-party and legacy systems
  • Strong understanding of data integrity and security principles
  • Experience with automated testing (unit, integration, and API testing)
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git)
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS)
  • Experience participating in code reviews and collaborative development workflows
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Nice-to-Haves

  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with message brokers (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ)
  • Exposure to event-driven architecture
