The Opportunity

As a Marine Engineer / Naval Architect, you will undertake inspections, assessments, verification, and certification activities for a wide range of marine and structural assets. These may include naval vessels, submarines, commercial marine assets, shipbuilding projects, offshore structures, ports, wharves, jetties, and associated infrastructure.

You will play a key role in ensuring that client assets comply with applicable Australian and international standards (ISO, IMO, SOLAS), regulatory requirements, and Bureau Veritas certification processes. The position involves close collaboration with clients, contractors, regulatory authorities, and internal engineering specialists to deliver high-quality technical outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections, surveys, verification, and certification activities for marine and structural assets.
• Verify inspection findings and provide technical recommendations in accordance with relevant Australian, New Zealand and international standards.
• Witness and verify fabrication, construction, maintenance, and repair activities performed by contractors.
• Manage project documentation, inspection records, permits, compliance reports, and certification deliverables.
• Prepare clear and professional technical reports for clients and stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements and Bureau Veritas safety procedures.
• Coordinate with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities throughout project execution.
• Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to clients and their assets during their operations.
• Assist multidisciplinary engineering teams on marine, offshore, defence, and industrial projects.
• Travel throughout Australia and occasionally internationally to conduct inspections and project activities.
• Maintain housekeeping standards across all shipbuilding or maintenance facilities.
• Assist with emergency response coordination and site safety systems.

About You

• Minimum 5 years' experience in marine, maritime, shipbuilding, offshore, defence, mining, fabrication, or oil & gas industries.
• Strong understanding of marine structures, maintenance, dry docking, wharf, jetty, and associated infrastructure.
• Proven ability to manage projects and coordinate with multiple stakeholders and contractors.
• Sound knowledge of WHS/OHS requirements and industrial safety practices.
• Excellent report writing, communication, and technical documentation skills.
• Excellent organisational and coordination skills in a complex operational setting.
• Ability to work both independently and within multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

• Experience within defence, naval shipbuilding, maritime, or other highly regulated industries.
• Degree qualification in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng), RPEQ, NER, or equivalent registration, or working towards professional registration.
• Knowledge of shipbuilding processes and vessel construction requirements.
• Australian citizenship and eligibility to obtain security clearance.
• Current Australian passport.
• Experience with confined space entry, working at heights, and other high-risk work environments.
• Relevant high-risk work licences and certifications.
