Bunzl Safety & Workwear is looking for a Junior Data Engineer / Junior Data Analyst to join our growing Data & Analytics function. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate from a STEM background who is keen to build a career in data engineering, analytics and data visualisation, working with tools such as Power BI.
This role will support our wider data strategy and will give you hands‑on exposure to real business reporting, data pipelines, and modern data warehousing practices, with full training provided where needed.
The Role
- You will work closely with our Lead Data Engineer and wider stakeholders across the business, helping to collect, structure, model and present data from multiple sources. The goal is to ensure high-quality reporting and enable better decision‑making across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the design, development and maintenance of data pipelines to collect, transform and store data.
- Assist with the creation of Power BI dashboards and reports, ensuring reporting is accurate, well‑structured and user‑friendly.
- Work with business stakeholders to understand reporting needs and translate them into technical solutions.
- Help develop self‑service reporting capability so teams can generate their own reports without reliance on IT.
- Perform data quality checks and support resolution of integrity issues.
- Document data models, transformations and reporting logic clearly.
- Contribute to improving data standards, processes and best practices across the function.
Essential Skills & Experience
- A degree in a STEM subject (Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, Data Science or similar).
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to work through problems independently.
- A basic understanding of data concepts such as tables, relationships and simple data modelling.
- Basic knowledge of SQL, Python and data manipulation approaches.
- Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly to non‑technical audiences.
- Exposure to Power BI, Tableau or similar data visualisation tools.
- Willingness to learn dashboard design best practices and storytelling with data.
Desirable Skills
- Awareness of data warehousing concepts (fact tables, dimensions, star schemas).
- Familiarity with cloud data platforms or ETL tools.
- Basic understanding of version control tools such as Git / DevOps.
Our Approach to Tools and AI
We actively use AI tools such as OpenAI, Claude and Gemini as part of our working environment. However, this role requires critical thinking, ownership and understanding. Candidates must be able to demonstrate independent problem‑solving ability; over‑reliance on AI without comprehension is not suitable for this position.
What We Offer
- A supportive environment for graduates entering the data profession.
- Structured learning and on‑the‑job training.
- Exposure to real‑world data challenges and stakeholder engagement.
- Experience working with both on‑premise and cloud solutions, including SSIS, Azure and Fabric as part of our modern data warehouse journey.
