Bunge is seeking a proactive and skilled Farm Buyer to join our dynamic origination team. While this role is based in Scotland, working from home, it requires quarterly travel to our Thame, UK office.
Your Role: Building Partnerships, Driving Procurement as a Farm Buyer, you will be at the forefront of Bunge's Origination department, cultivating and managing relationships with growers across Scotland. Your work will directly enable Bunge to identify and purchase essential grains, oilseeds, and pulses, facilitating trade and supplying farm-originated commodities to local and international consumers. This role combines intensive customer interaction with a sharp commercial focus, requiring you to negotiate effectively, manage contract details, and support our commodity traders to ensure optimal sourcing and market impact.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Establish and nurture strong, long-term relationships with arable farmers across Scotland.
- Procure grains, oilseeds, and pulses from growers at price levels advised by the Trade department.
- Ensure accurate and timely entry of contracts into our ERP system.
- Actively gather and track market information to inform daily negotiations and procurement strategies.
- Operate within specified gross margin budgets, contributing to the financial success of the department.
- Manage and maintain relationships within your own portfolio of farmer accounts.
- Collaborate with third-party agents who may procure grain for the company, assisting in relationship management.
- Support colleagues within the Origination department in managing grower relationships.
- Assist commodity traders with sourcing required product parcels, resolving contract disputes, and general contract management.
- Represent Bunge at meetings, industry events, and during farm visits, upholding our reputation and values.
- Liaise closely with internal colleagues to ensure procurement, trading, and execution are always performed in the company's best interests.
Your Profile: We are seeking a confident, proactive, and commercially astute professional who excels at building relationships and possesses strong negotiation skills. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, able to work both independently and as part of a team and driven by a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
What We Are Looking For:
- Location: Residing in the Fife/Stirling/Tayside region (preferred), or Borders/Lothians, with a strong understanding of the local agricultural sector and farmers.
- Education: Educated to a minimum of A-level, preferably to degree level in a relevant field such as Business Studies, Agriculture, Agricultural Sciences, or Agri-Business. A vocational qualification/diploma from an Agricultural College or Lantra is also highly valued.
- Experience: Proven experience in a commercial or agricultural role, demonstrating strong customer service and relationship-building abilities.
- Technical Expertise: Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and strong numerical and analytical skills. Desirable experience includes a good understanding of arable farming and knowledge of AIC (Agricultural Industries Confederation) and FOSFA (Federation of Oils, Seeds and Fats Associations) contracts.
- Skills: Excellent communication and strong negotiation skills, superb customer service, high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, common sense, and the ability to work under pressure.
- Mindset: Autonomous, eager to learn, flexible, confident, a natural relationship builder, a strong problem solver with an inquisitive nature, and a commercial mindset.
Working Hours: Normal working hours will be Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.
